Russian writer and cardiologist, publishing-house founder, one-time research fellow at the University of California, Maxim Osipov practised medicine near Moscow until 2022, when he moved to Germany. In these times of war, when it is difficult to understand or sympathise with ordinary Russians, Osiipov’s short stories … some fact, some fiction … illustrate the humanity and generosity as well as the stupidity and cruelty of life in Putin’s Russia.
